The National Disability Insurance Scheme or NDIS, is a new way of providing individualised support for people with disability, their families, and carers. The NDIS provides all Australians aged under 65, that have a permanent and significant disability, with the reasonable and necessary supports they need to live an ordinary life.
Eligible people, known as participants, are given a plan of support which is developed and tailored to their individual needs. This plan may include informal support that a person receives through family, friends, mainstream or other community services. If required, the NDIS will also fund reasonable and necessary support that assists participants in achieving their goals
